The ACT Plan test will be administered to all 10th grade students on Wednesday, October 30. ACT Plan helps 10th graders build a solid foundation for future academic and career success and provides information needed to address school districts' high-priority issues. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and beyond. Whether students are college-bound or plan to enter the workforce directly after high school, ACT Plan can help all students.

The counseling department has organized a trip for JMHS students to visit Bluefield State College and Concord University on October 24th. Please sign up for the trip in the guidance office. The fee for the trip is $6, which covers the lunch that will be provided.
Students, the end of the first nine weeks is quickly approaching! The last day of the nine weeks is October 24th. Be certain to speak to your teachers about your grades and any make up work that needs to be completed. Do NOT wait until the last minute to try to bring your grade up. Stay on top of your assignments, and be sure to communicate with your teachers about any problems you may be having in your class
JMHS will be hosting approximately 40 college and career representatives at our annual college/career fair on Tuesday, October 22nd from 9:00-11:30. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to speak to members of the community about life after high school. Also, during that time students will hear presentations from Colonel Womack and Deputy Hellar on youth leadership and school safety, respectively.

Mrs. Broyles is hosting an alumni basketball event to benefit both the JMHS Memorial Garden & the students who will be visiting Boston in the spring on October 19. Come on out at 5:30 to watch the JMHS women alumni show off their old school skills! Following that game will be an intense game between the JMHS alumni men. Show your school spirit by supporting this event!
This week JMHS will be celebrating its 20th Homecoming. Homecoming queens from previous years will be honored before the game on Friday. Students will prepare for the game by participating in spirit week. Each day this week, students will show their spirit by dressing up. The schedule for spirit week is listed below. Come on out and support the Mavericks on Friday night, as they defeat the Mount View Golden Knights!
Monday: Twin/Throwback Tuesday: Hippie/Neon Wednesday: Teacher/Student switch/Nerd Thursday: Character/Camo Thursday Evening: Homecoming Parade & Pep Rally Friday: PURPLE, BLACK, & WHITE!!!!! The PSAT test will be taken on Wednesday, October 16. It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. It also gives you a chance to enter National Merit scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. JMHS had two National Merit Semi-Finalists from last year's test, and we would love to have two or three more this year! Good luck to the students taking the exam!!!
