At the invitation of Delegate Roy Cooper four cadets from the James Monroe High School/Monroe County Technical Center's Maverick Battalion traveled to the West Virginia Capitol in Charleston, West Virginia on 7 March 2016. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Callie Davis, Cadet Captain Samantha Vance, Cadet Captain Antonella Blanco, and Cadet Sergeant First Class Amanda Pitt posted the colors for that day’s legislative session in the House of Delegates and Cadets Blanco and Pitt sung the National Anthem as part of the ceremony. The House of Delegates also recognized the entire Maverick Battalion for its excellence representing the state of West Virginia at the 2015 D-Day Memorial Parade in Normandy, France and its ongoing mission of motivating young people to become better citizens. In addition, the four cadets had the opportunity to observe how our state's legislature functions and had informative meetings with Delegate Cooper, Secretary of State Natalie Tennant, and Governor Earl Ray Tomblin.
