The West Virginia Association of Orthopedic Executives (WVAOE) has established the Joshua Tuck Scholarship to help support a student studying healthcare management.
At the time of his death in 2017, Josh was the practice manager for the Charleston Area Medical Center Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; in addition, he was vice president of WVAOE. The Joshua Tuck Scholarship has been created specifically to reward the outstanding scholastic achievements of high school seniors who plan to enter the healthcare management field. Complete eligibility rules and forms can be found on the “WVAOE Members” tab at www.wvos.org. Applicants (1) must be West Virginia high school seniors; (2) must enroll in Bluefield State College, Fairmont State University, Marshall University or WVU Tech; (3) major in a healthcare management program; and (4) submit a 450-500 word essay answering the question: “Describe your community’s issues with opioids and explain how you would reduce the problem.” WVAOE will accept applications and accompanying essays postmarked between February 11, 2021 and March 31, 2021. From all the applications received, the WVAOE Board of Directors will select a single one-time only $2,500 scholarship recipient in April 2021. The winner will be announced at their high school awards assembly or commencement program, or a COVID-19 appropriate method. Marshall University's College of Engineering and Computer Sciences received an NSF S-STEM grant to support WV College students, mainly female, to study STEM at Marshall with scholarship of $7500/year for four years. The scholarship program starts in the fall of 2021 and MU is looking to recruit students to the program (10 students in 2021 and another 10 students in 2022). Their primary goal is to advance the education of the individuals who supply the Nation's energy today and in the years ahead. This is a one-time scholarship is the amount of $1,000. Scholarship criteria - A copy of the student's high school transcript with ACT/SAT score -An original essay of at least 300 words -A discussion of the applicant's history of leadership or service -At least one letter of recommendation from someone other than a relative -Application must be signed by applicant's counselor or principal -If any part of the criteria is missing, application will not be considered This scholarship is for the 20-21 academic year and available to high school students who are planning to study Business Administration at Concord University. REQUIREMENTS OF A SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: All winners of this scholarship must attend the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival on October 7, 2020 to receive the check for the scholarship and special recognition. The winner shall provide proof of enrollment in a West Virginia Public State college and/or university or career and technology school to the scholarship chairperson. The ARH Scholars Award program is designed to help fund the cost of education for those interested in seeking a career in healthcare. Applications are being accepted online March 1 – 22, 2020. For more than 79 years, the WVU Alumni Association’s Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (LPEF) has helped more than 4,500 deserving students realize their dreams at WVU. Funded entirely from unsolicited private donations, the LPEF is a contributing source of funds to the WVU Scholars Program. The LPEF was established in 1937 by the WVU Alumni Association and has more than $12 million in assets.
The LPEF supports a number of individual scholarships. Each year, approximately 400 scholarships will be awarded through the LPEF to deserving students, including valedictorians, student body presidents and other deserving Mountaineers. Students eligible for the LPEF scholarship must:
The Beckley Area Foundation scholarship portal is now revamped and open! It now features a universal approach for applicants. They will answer some basic or common questions and from their answers they will be directed to other scholarship opportunities for which they are eligible. They will not complete another application. But will have the opportunity to simply answer supplemental questions. They choose whether to answer these queries or to dismiss. They will be completing only 1 application.

What Happens When You Apply The Beckley Area Foundation provides oversight for scholarship funds established by individuals, firms and organizations wishing to assist students in furthering their education. Many of the scholarships managed by BAF are designated for use by students pursuing a particular field of study or attending a specific school. Additionally, there are scholarships that can be used at any college for graduates. While the majority of scholarships benefit Raleigh County applicants there are others designated for Fayette, Mercer, Monroe, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming students. BAF’s 2020 application process is using a ‘universal approach’. This feature allows students’ to be directed to multiple scholarship opportunities, for which they are eligible, while completing only one common application. 1. The recipient of a scholarship shall be a man or woman who is a United States Citizen and has resided in West Virginia for at least three years prior to applying. 2. Scholarships of up to $1,000 will be available. Recipients will be notified no later than June 1. 3. Only one (1) scholarship will be granted to an applicant in a calendar year. Applicants may apply each year they are attending school. A new completed application is required. 4. Scholarships will be granted for attending an accredited college, professional, vocational or technical program offered by an institution in West Virginia. Students must be full-time students. Scholarships may be granted for attending a school or college outside West Virginia only if the program desired is not offered within the state. 5. Applications should be submitted to the counseling office. 6. The applicant shall submit, with the application, the following requirements for eligibility: a. Two (2) current letters of recommendation, one personal and one academic. Personal/work reference shall be by an adult other than a family member. These need to be signed. b. A recent transcript of grades c. Copy of an official letter of acceptance or validation from the accredited school to be attended, or validation of attendance for those already in a program. 7. Completed applications with all elements must be postmarked by April 1st. The awarded scholarship will be paid directly to the school to be attended. 8.
