Each year, the U.S. Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Foundation grants $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. The number of grants awarded annually is at the discretion of the Foundation and must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of the recipient’s choice.

Scholarship Amount: $500. 1. The scholarship recipient(s) must be a high school senior in a WV school. 2. Applicants must have a 2.0 grade point average. 3. This scholarship must be used for tuition/educational expenses in any vocational, college or institution of higher learning approved by the Scholarship Committee. It may not be used for living or personal expenses. 4. The scholarship recipient may accept another source of financial aid or scholarship. 5. A high school transcript must be submitted with the application. 6. Scholarship Application must be received by December 31, 2021, preferably by email. 7. The final decision on awarding a scholarship shall be made by the Scholarship Committee comprised of members of the West Virginia PTA Board of Managers and PTA members from across the state. 8. Payment of the scholarship shall be in the form of a check made payable to the approved school to be used for tuition/educational expenses only. 9. Criteria for Selection of Scholarship Recipient(s): Overall quality of application, submitted materials, and following directions. Volunteer Service, Leadership, Honors Received, and Extra-Curricular Activities. Recipient(s) shall be selected without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability or geographical location. For more information and to apply now, visit mobile.westvirginiapta.org/scholarship.shtml The Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program is a competitive scholarship for recent high school graduates with a passion for teaching and a history of high academic achievement, community service, and active involvement in extracurricular activities while in high school. Recipients will receive $10,000 per year for up to four years (up to the cost of tuition and fees, room and board, and other approved educational expenses). In exchange, Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars must agree to teach in a West Virginia public school in an area of critical need (math, science, elementary education or special education) for a period of five years after graduating from college.
The scholarship may be used at any eligible West Virginia public or private, non-profit college or university offering West Virginia Board of Education-approved teacher preparation programs in math, science, elementary education, or special education. Each year, we will accept up to 25 new Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars from a national applicant pool. The Beckley Area Foundation scholarship portal is now revamped and open! It now features a universal approach for applicants. They will answer some basic or common questions and from their answers they will be directed to other scholarship opportunities for which they are eligible. They will not complete another application. But will have the opportunity to simply answer supplemental questions. They choose whether to answer these queries or to dismiss. They will be completing only 1 application.

What Happens When You Apply The Beckley Area Foundation provides oversight for scholarship funds established by individuals, firms and organizations wishing to assist students in furthering their education. Many of the scholarships managed by BAF are designated for use by students pursuing a particular field of study or attending a specific school. Additionally, there are scholarships that can be used at any college for graduates. While the majority of scholarships benefit Raleigh County applicants there are others designated for Fayette, Mercer, Monroe, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming students. BAF’s 2022 application process is using a ‘universal approach’. This feature allows students’ to be directed to multiple scholarship opportunities, for which they are eligible, while completing only one common application. Scholarship recipients may receive up to $40,000 per year for up to four years; pursue any area of study; take advantage of individual college advising; and have the opportunity to network with other high-achievers within the JKCF Scholar community. To be considered, applicants must plan to graduate in the spring of 2016 with intentions of attending a 4-year college. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 with test scores in the top 15% (SAT - 1200 or ACT - 26) and demonstrate financial need. The application deadline is November 18. The Wendy’s High School Heisman Program is looking for all types of high-achieving seniors who participate in a wide range of sports and school and community activities. Applicants must have a GPA at or above 3.0 and participate in at least one school sponsored sport. They must also be a leader in school and in the community and serve as a role model for underclassman. Finalists will participate in a Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York City that will air on ESPN2. Winners at each level will receive Wendy's gift cards. Finalists will win money for James Monroe High School. Applications must be submitted by October 19th at 3:00pm.
WVU’s Department of Physics and Astronomy received an NSF S-STEM grant to support WV students to study physics with a computational area of emphasis at WVU with a scholarship of up to $10,000 a year for up to 4 years. The scholarship may be awarded to high school seniors applying to WVU and to current physics students at WVU. The goal of the program is to increase the number of West Virginians pursuing high tech careers in physics and computer science. Please see the link below for more information.
