A community school calendar meeting is scheduled for February 25th at 7:00pm in the auditorium at James Monroe. If you would like to be informed of changing state laws and requirements concerning the school calendar and share your thoughts about these changes, please attend this meeting. Your input will be considered and appreciated.

Enter your painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, and/or creative writing by February 17th to be included in the art show. You may pick up entry forms and drop off your artwork at that Peterstown and Union Libraries, as well as, the art rooms at Monroe County middle and high schools. Artwork will be displayed in the Monroe Motors Show Room in Union from March 3rd through March 14th. It will then be displayed at the Peterstown Library from March 17th through March 29th. Seniors who are PROMISE eligible, and those who hope to become PROMISE eligible, need to apply for the scholarship online. To apply, click here. You will need to set up an account before applying. Be certain to remember your username and password. Once you have registered, you can also apply for other WV state funded scholarships.
An academic pep rally will be held on Tuesday, February 11th to recognize Maverick students who have achieved academic honors at JMHS. Students who made the A or AB honor roll for the first semester will be recognized. They will receive a purple card or a white card, which will provide them access to different JMHS events at discounted prices. Students who on on track to earn the PROMISE scholarship will be recognized. And a special congratulations will be given to Jared Boone, Allen Haag, Preston Jones, and Eli Judy for being named Ronald Raegan Scholars. Keep up the good work Mavs!
College Goal Sunday is an opportunity for students and families to receive FREE, confidential support in completing the FAFSA. College Goal Sunday workshops will be held on February 9, 2014 from 1 to 4 pm at 25 locations in West Virginia, including Bluefield State College and Concord University. Financial aid experts from West Virginia's colleges volunteer their time to provide this free service. This is your chance to sit down with an expert and get answers to any financial aid questions you might have. It doesn't matter what college you attend or are planning to attend - you are welcome at any site location.
