The Governor's School of Entrepreneurship (GSE) is for high school students currently in ninth through eleventh grades. Young innovators learn how to create a scalable business model based on market feedback - and then have the opportunity to pitch and start the business. An admissions counselor from West Virginia University will be at JMHS on Thursday, February 22nd during both lunch shifts to speak with interested in attending WVU. She will be here to answer questions and discuss opportunities available at WVU.
Concord University admissions representative, Morgan Billups, will be at JMHS on Tuesday, February 20th during both lunch shifts to speak with interested in attending Concord. She will be here to answer questions and discuss opportunities available at Concord.
Students in the JMHS National Honor Society worked with members of the United Methodist Church food bank committee on Wednesday, February 7th. Volunteers met a food distribution truck in Lindside and helped unload the truck to all Monroe County food banks that were present. Volunteers divided in to teams and helped unload items at Lindside United Methodist and Peterstown United Methodist church pantries. The student volunteers were not deterred by the weather, and they reported enjoying the experience. Thank you Mavericks for your hard work!
On Thursday, January 25th, Samantha Frazier and Whitney Hunt joined two students from Greenbrier East High School in Charleston for a job shadowing experience with West Virginia Democratic State Senator Stephen Baldwin. On Tuesday, February 6th, Student Body President, Bryce Dickerson, and Student Body Vice-President, Whitney Hunt, led an Academic PEP Rally at JMHS. Students named to either the A or AB Honor Rolls were recognized and provided with keytags for admission to school events at a reduced rate. Students with faithful attendance were also recognized. Bryce and Whitney led the student body in a few competitive games as classmates cheered on their peers. We are very proud of our student scholars and their achievements.
