Accessing your SAT School Day Results April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. JMHS students are invited to submit entries in to a video contest sponsored by ChildLaw Services, Inc in Princeton, WV. Participants should submit a three minute video highlighting one of the following: The Opioid Crisis-How it Affects Kids or What We Can Do About the Opioid Crisis. 2019 Poster Contest Rules
Theme: "Life in the Soil: Dig Deeper" State Contest The WV Association of Conservation District Poster Contest is modeled after the NACD Poster Contest. WVACD rules may vary slightly, so please review them carefully. For more information about the contest please visit:http://www.nacdnet.org/general-resources/stewardship-and-education-materials/contests/ WVACD Eligibility The WV Association of Conservation Districts Poster Contest is open to kindergarten through twelfth grade students. District winners in each category are eligible to complete in the state contest. One poster from each district may be entered in each of the following grade categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The state selects a poster for entering in each of the grade divisions and submits it to NACD. The state does not have to enter a poster for every grade level. Each entry must have the entry form filled out, signed by guardian or parent and attached to the back of the poster. Failure to do this will result in disqualification. WVACD Contest Theme The WV Association of Conservation Districts Poster Contest theme coincides with the NACD theme. The 1st place winner in each category will receive $50 and be recognized at the annual West Virginia Conservation Awards Conference in October. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is seeking submissions for its 2019 essay contest.
Students are invited to consider and share their thoughts on the question: “How has the right to freedom of speech established for public school students in the Supreme Court case of Tinker v. Des Moinesevolved in the 50 years since it was decided?” The contest is open to all students currently in grades 9 through 12 from Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. Essays are limited to 1,000 words and must be submitted by April 15, 2019. Students have the opportunity to win one of three cash prizes: first place, $2,000; second place, $1,500; and third place, $1,000. Winners will be announced in July, and travel will be provided to the court’s Constitution Day event in September 2019. Our community was treated to a fantastic concert put on by the JMHS Band, directed by Mr. Ben Neal on Monday, April 15th at 7:30pm. The students did a wonderful job! MetroNews believes that education is the key to a successful future! They are proud to announce the 2016 West Virginia Scholar Program. The application deadline April 12th. MetroNews in partnership with West Virginia Wesleyan will award a full scholarship which includes four-years of tuition, fees, room and board to one lucky student . This scholarship is valued at $160,000 and will be awarded to a student in West Virginia who is currently a member of their junior class in high school. Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Justin St. Clair and Monroe County Deputy Mike Heller presented a session "Laws Regarding Cell Phone Use" on April 9th, 2019 at the James Monroe gymnasium. All students, grades 9th through 12th were in attendance and the presentation was eye opening and informative for students. Proper use of cell phones is important for students to establish, as misuse can have negative implications including fines and jail time for improper use.
