This camp is open to middle and high school students (grades 6-12). This year's session will be held June 12th-14th from 9:00-4:00 daily on the WVU Tech Campus in Beckley, WV. The registration fee is $225, which includes lunch each day and a WVU Tech t-shirt. The registration deadline is May 28. There are a limited number of registration spots available, and they are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Topics that will be covered include: +Criminal Justice +Fingerprints +Bloodstain Pattern Analysis +Firearms and Toolmarks +Footwear and Tire Tread Impressions +Death Investigation +Crime Scene Investigation Students will get to put their skills to the test on the last day of camp by investigating a mock crime scene at our new crime scene house. JMHS graduation will be on Friday, May 26th at 7:00pm. Families, friends and community members are invited to come out and support the graduating class of 2017 and their accomplishments. Parents please sign out your student's records, including their diploma, upon arrival. Graduates should arrive at the school by 5:30pm on the 26th. Graduation practice will be on Thursday at 9:00am. Graduates will receive their graduation tickets after practice. Students who are looking for summer employment opportunities, may want to check out opportunities with the Boy Scout Jamboree. Graduating seniors will be recognized for their academic accomplishments through scholarship recognition. Families, friends and community members are invited to come out and support our graduates who have excelled in the classroom. College representatives, military personnel and local donors will be at JMHS to present awards. We are grateful to have so many local organizations offer our students scholarships for post-secondary education. A special thanks goes to the Monroe County Education Foundation who will be hosting the awards reception in the JMHS Library.
Monroe County Technical Center will hold its annual graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 18th at 12:30pm. Families, friends and community members are invited to come out and support our MCTC graduates. Students completing a program at MCTC have met standards set to prepare them for college and/or careers after high school. All programs at MCTC are now simulated workplace sites, which require classrooms to run like a jobsite. We are proud of our MCTC graduates and their accomplishments. We had several state winners in several different MCTC organizations this year. Come out to the ceremony to hear all about them!
The WV Sheriffs' Youth Leadership Academy is an annual, 6-day residential summer program for teenage citizens from throughout the state. The Academy provides our youth with the leadership skills necessary for them to go back to their home communities and help others deal life challenges. The Academy also encourages participation in citizenship activities and teaches responsibility. The 2017 Academy will be Sunday, July 16th through Friday, July 21st at Camp Ona in Milton, WV. First time applicants must be entering 9th grade in the Fall of 2017. Cadets must have at least a 2.0 GPA and submit a $100 Academy fee. The application deadline is May 15. Registration for our 2016 Experience Pharmacy Bootcamp is now open! The camp will take place June 20-23, 2017 on the University of Charleston campus in Charleston, WV. Some of the week’s events will include hands-on simulations, compounding, and IV lab experiences, as well as sessions on the history of pharmacy, medicinal plants, pharmaceutical career options, mock interviewing, personal statement review/preparation, and more!
The camp is a prime opportunity to gain insight and preparation for that next step toward a future in pharmacy. Whether students are interested in learning more about a pharmacy career as a whole, or need help preparing for the application process, the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy ExRx Boot camp will prove to be a worthwhile experience. Cost for the four-day camp is ONLY $99.00 per student, and includes meals, lodging, linens, towels, as well all activities and materials. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available.
