JMHS Art students will be decorating the town of union for breast cancer awareness month. We are excited that our students are willing to donate their time for this great cause! Take a trip through Union to see their work.
The JMHS Mavericks have been ranked #3 in the state for the school spirit shown in the student sections at our sporting events! We are very proud of our students for taking the initiative to increase school spirit here at JMHS. Our hallways are buzzing with Maverick pride! Come on out to support our Mavericks and join the fun. Our students still have several things planned for upcoming events.
Open house will be held at Valley College in Princeton, WV on Friday, September 27th from 10am to 2pm. Students will meet with current Valley College students and staff. There will be free refreshments, games and prizes. For more information call 304-425-2323 or visit www.valley.edu.
The JMHS Mavericks are excited about the homecoming game coming up on Friday, September 19th. The week will be filled with activities and opportunities for students to show their school pride. We invite the community to come out and support our Mavs on Thursday for the parade and Friday at the game.
Attention juniors and seniors:
Hoby's Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA) will be November 6-11 in Asheville, NC this year. The ALA is designed for juniors and seniors who want to activate and lead change in their communities. Participants are immersed in college level curricula that invite students to enhance their self-knowledge and advance their leadership development. In this program, they will craft a one-year project action plan around a specific service or social enterprise. The cost is $845 per student. Students must apply by September 9th. For more information, visit www.hoby.org/advanced-leadership-academy. The JMHS School Counseling department will be sponsoring the annual college/career fair Thursday, September 18th. The gymnasium will be full of college and career representatives prepared to talk with our students. All students will be invited to participate in this opportunity. Two high school juniors and seniors will be selected as delegates to represent West Virginia in the 53rd United States Senate Youth Program to be held on March 7-14, 2015, in Washington, D.C. Delegates will earn a $5,000 college scholarship for their participation in the program. Applicants must be a current member of the JMHS Student Government Association. State semi-finalists will be selected based on test scores earned on an exam that will be given at JMHS on September 15th. If you are interested in applying for the program, you need to sign up in the guidance office by September 9th.
