JMHS Maverick student, Austin Waddell, attended JROTC builds Character and Leadership Camp (JCLC) this past summer. Austin reported that the experience at JCLC taught him how to "be a better leader" and how to "work better with others". His favorite part of the experience was "climbing the rock wall". The JROTC JCLC camp is a great experience for our students, and we encourage all of our JROTC students to attend. Students who are interested in attending next year should see Colonel Womack, Master Sergeant Wiley or the guidance office.
JMHS Junior, Britanee McCullough, completed the five week Upward Bound program at Concord University this summer. The Upward Bound program allows students to take summer academic and career courses in a college like atmosphere. Britanee shared with the counseling office that she felt more prepared for the school year due to this experience. She is thankful that she was able to visit several major colleges in West Virginia. And she feels that the program is very beneficial for college-bound students. Any students who would like to join the Upward Bound program should see Mrs. Sparks. For more information about the program, visit http://academics.concord.edu/cub/.
West Virginia Agriculture Commissioner, Walt Helmick, presented FFA students with a $5,000 check today for their achievements at the state competition last year. In the spring, the JMHS FFA team won the WV Livestock Judging Competition by earning the highest score on record since 1959 during the state competition. The team will use today's donation to help cover expenses to travel to the national competition in Louisville, Kentucky this October. We are very proud of our FFA team, and we are excited to see results from the national competition!
