Kids’ Chance of West Virginia, Inc. is a nonprofit scholarship organization which grants educational scholarships to the sons and daughters of West Virginia residents who suffered a serious, catastrophic or fatal workplace injury or illness. In order to be considered for a Kids’ Chance scholarship, applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 23 when completing their application. Scholarships are awarded for the academic year and may be renewed for a maximum of five (5) years if the student maintains a 2.5 grade point average and enrolled as a full time student. The scholarship may be used to pursue a degree/diploma or certificate in any field of study in any accredited trade school, vocational school, college or university within or outside West Virginia. Scholarships are chosen on the basis of need for financial assistance, academic performance, leadership abilities and demonstrated and potential contributions to school or community. The scholarships are administered through The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation (https://tgkvf.org/scholarships/) and the applications are reviewed objectively by the Scholarship Committee.
Since its formation in 1999, Kids’ Chance of West Virginia has awarded over one hundred thirty thousand dollars ($175,000.00) in scholarships. Scholarship recipients have attended schools from vocational programs to Harvard University and the majority of the recipients have remained in West Virginia. This is an ongoing program designed to help West Virginia’s kids for the years to come. Kids’ Chance programs and similar type programs have expanded to over forty (402) states and Kids’ Chance of West Virginia, Inc. was a founder and charter member of the national organization of Kids’ Chance. Scholarships are funded though the support of individuals, businesses and other foundations and fund raising activities including the annual Kids’ Chance golf tournament. Comments are closed.
