Through the National FFA Foundation, businesses and individuals support scholarships that are awarded to students with a wide variety of higher education plans and career goals. Whether you are planning on attending a specialized training program or seeking a four-year degree, the National FFA Scholarship Program has opportunities for all.
Scholarships support FFA high school seniors and collegiate members as well as non-FFA students. Just one application is required for multiple scholarship opportunities totaling close to $2 million. For more information, visit https://www.ffa.org/participate/grants-and-scholarships/scholarships/. James Monroe students have an opportunity to earn scholarship money by shooting archery. This year there will no WV State Archery Tournament in Huntington, WV. Instead, there will be a one day WV State Virtual Tournament held at Peterstown Middle School on either March 25, 26 or 27. Peterstown/James Monroe archery coaches are encouraging JMHS students to participate in this shoot. Scores will be submitted to the state coordinator and the highest 7 team and 20 individual scores, from schools within WV, will qualify to go to the National Tournament in Louisville, KY in May. Several thousands of dollars in scholarship money will be given away in Louisville. A few years ago, Todd Craghead of JMHS archery, won a $10,000 scholarship in Louisville. If approved by the county School Board on February 2, archery practices will begin after February 14. JMHS students can either attend practices at PMS or practice on their own and shoot in the virtual to try to qualify. If you decide you want to participate but don't have a bow, a school bow will be provided. Also, if you want to participate you must let one of the archery coaches know so that your name can be entered into the state roster. If interested, stop by the school counseling office.
Each year, the U.S. Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate Foundation grants $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. The number of grants awarded annually is at the discretion of the Foundation and must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study. Checks awarded will be made out in the name of the recipient and the educational institution of the recipient’s choice.
