DEADLINE: March 31, 2020 ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to any West Virginia senior graduating this year from a public, private, or home school and planning to attend a West Virginia Public college and/or university or career and technology school and needs financial assistance to complete his or her studies. The scholarship is only open to persons not currently attending a college and/or university with no more than 12 credit hours. INFORMATION REQUIRED AS PART OF THIS APPLICATION: To be considered as a candidate, you must include the following items along with your completed application. Failure to follow the directions will result in disqualification. REQUIREMENTS OF A SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: All winners of this scholarship must attend the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival on October 7, 2020 to receive the check for the scholarship and special recognition. Winner(s) shall be present to receive the money. The winner shall provide proof of enrollment in a West Virginia Public State college and/or university or career and technology school to the scholarship chairperson. AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP: The amounts of the scholarship are $2,000 for students attending Public college and/or university and $1,000 for students attending a Public career and technology school. The amount paid to the winner(s) may be used at the winner(s) discretion. NOTIFICATION: A member of the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival will contact the selected student’s guidance counselor and make arrangements to attend the senior awards assembly to present the scholarship winner certificate. ELIGIBILITY: • All senior students in the State of West Virginia with at least a 2.5 GPA; • All senior students meeting the above with a financial need; • All senior students meeting the above and have completed required community service as required by your county; and • Applicant must be entering a state supported West Virginia Public college and/or university or career or technology school. The West Virginia Association of Orthopaedic Executives (WVAOE) has established the Joshua Tuck Scholarship to help support a student studying healthcare management.
At the time of his death in 2017, Josh was the practice manager for the Charleston Area Medical Center Department of Orthopedic Surgery; in addition, he was vice president of WVAOE. The Joshua Tuck Scholarship is being created specifically to reward the outstanding scholastic achievements of high school seniors who plan to enter the healthcare management field. Applicants (1) must be West Virginia high school seniors; (2) must enroll in Bluefield State College, Fairmont State University, Marshall University or WVU Tech; (3) major in a healthcare management program; and (4) submit a 300-500 word essay answering the question: “Describe your community’s issues with opioids and explain how you would reduce the problem.” Please click here for the application letter, form and required documentation. The ARH Scholars Award program is designed to help fund the cost of education for those interested in seeking a career in healthcare. Applications are being accepted online March 1 – 22, 2020. The award will be tailored to meet individual financial needs. Tuition will be paid directly to the school of choice. For more than 79 years, the WVU Alumni Association’s Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (LPEF) has helped more than 4,500 deserving students realize their dreams at WVU. Funded entirely from unsolicited private donations, the LPEF is a contributing source of funds to the WVU Scholars Program. The LPEF was established in 1937 by the WVU Alumni Association and has more than $12 million in assets.
The LPEF supports a number of individual scholarships. Each year, approximately 400 scholarships will be awarded through the LPEF to deserving students, including valedictorians, student body presidents and other deserving Mountaineers. Students eligible for the LPEF scholarship must:
The Beckley Area Foundation scholarship portal is now revamped and open! It now features a universal approach for applicants. They will answer some basic or common questions and from their answers they will be directed to other scholarship opportunities for which they are eligible. They will not complete another application. But will have the opportunity to simply answer supplemental questions. They choose whether to answer these queries or to dismiss. They will be completing only 1 application.

What Happens When You Apply The Beckley Area Foundation provides oversight for scholarship funds established by individuals, firms and organizations wishing to assist students in furthering their education. Many of the scholarships managed by BAF are designated for use by students pursuing a particular field of study or attending a specific school. Additionally, there are scholarships that can be used at any college for graduates. While the majority of scholarships benefit Raleigh County applicants there are others designated for Fayette, Mercer, Monroe, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming students. BAF’s 2020 application process is using a ‘universal approach’. This feature allows students’ to be directed to multiple scholarship opportunities, for which they are eligible, while completing only one common application.
