This fall, WVU Tech is offering high-achieving students who demonstrate financial need a one-of-a-kind chance to major in select computer and engineering fields as a scholar funded by the prestigious National Science Foundation. The program is part of a study to examine how financial and academic support can help students achieve their goals in these important fields.
We’re calling it “SUCCESS,” and it’s a great way for your promising STEM students to earn their degree with extra support. The program starts in fall 2021. 2021 Application StopThe Southeastern States Pupil Transportation Conference (SESPTC), comprised of fourteen member states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia) will grant a $2,000 Buster Bynum Education Scholarship in 2021. Named in honor of R. A. “Buster” Bynum, retired Director of the Virginia Department of Education’s pupil transportation office and former SESPTC treasurer, this one-time $2,000 education scholarship is made available to one deserving public school student in each of the fourteen-member southeastern states.
Qualifications The parent/guardian listed on application had a Gross Taxable Family Income equal to or less than $80,000 for each of the “Past Three Tax Years.” (For the purpose of this scholarship award, the “Past Three Tax Years” is defined as the 2018, 2019 and 2020 tax years.) The parent/guardian listed on application has been an active employee in public school transportation during the “Past Three Years.” This includes school bus drivers, aides, monitors, mechanics, parts clerks, foremen, managers, trainers, supervisors, directors, and inspectors that work in public education. (For the purpose of this scholarship award, the “Past Three Years” work history requirement is defined as the period since January 1, 2018.) The student applicant has at least a 3.0 (B) scholastic average, will graduate from a public high school, and will attend a post-secondary educational institution starting in 2021. The scholarship cannot be awarded to any student who has a family member serving on the selection committee. Stop by the counseling office for an application. Applications are due to the local school system transportation office in your county by April 10th. GENERAL FEDERATION OF WOMEN’S CLUBS WEST VIRGINIA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE APRIL 1, 2019
1. The recipient of a scholarship shall be a man or woman who is a United States Citizen and has resided in West Virginia for at least three years prior to applying. 2. Scholarships of up to $1,000 will be available. Recipients will be notified no later than June 1. 3. Only one (1) scholarship will be granted to an applicant in a calendar year. Applicants may apply each year they are attending school. A new completed application is required. 4. Scholarships will be granted for attending an accredited college, professional, vocational or technical program offered by an institution in West Virginia. Students must be full-time students. Scholarships may be granted for attending a school or college outside West Virginia only if the program desired is not offered within the state. 5. Applications should be submitted to the counseling office. 6. The applicant shall submit, with the application, the following requirements for eligibility: a. Two (2) current letters of recommendation, one personal and one academic. Personal/work reference shall be by an adult other than a family member. These need to be signed. b. A recent transcript of grades c. Copy of an official letter of acceptance or validation from the accredited school to be attended, or validation of attendance for those already in a program. 7. Completed applications with all elements must be postmarked by April 1st. The awarded scholarship will be paid directly to the school to be attended. 8. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the criteria of a. Financial need b. Academic info obtained in transcripts c. Leadership/School Activities d. Community Service e. The West Virginia Association of Orthopedic Executives (WVAOE) has established the Joshua Tuck Scholarship to help support a student studying healthcare management.
At the time of his death in 2017, Josh was the practice manager for the Charleston Area Medical Center Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; in addition, he was vice president of WVAOE. The Joshua Tuck Scholarship has been created specifically to reward the outstanding scholastic achievements of high school seniors who plan to enter the healthcare management field. Complete eligibility rules and forms can be found on the “WVAOE Members” tab at www.wvos.org. Applicants (1) must be West Virginia high school seniors; (2) must enroll in Bluefield State College, Fairmont State University, Marshall University or WVU Tech; (3) major in a healthcare management program; and (4) submit a 450-500 word essay answering the question: “Describe your community’s issues with opioids and explain how you would reduce the problem.” WVAOE will accept applications and accompanying essays postmarked between February 11, 2021 and March 31, 2021. From all the applications received, the WVAOE Board of Directors will select a single one-time only $2,500 scholarship recipient in April 2021. The winner will be announced at their high school awards assembly or commencement program, or a COVID-19 appropriate method. Michael was a beloved son, grandson, husband, brother, nephew, and friend. He was a 2012 graduate of James Monroe High School and a member of the JM football Plow Boys. More than anything Michael was a hard worker, and we want to honor him by granting a scholarship to a student who shares a similar work ethic and a drive to succeed in a trade field.

Furrow Memorial Scholarship Application Marshall University's College of Engineering and Computer Sciences received an NSF S-STEM grant to support WV College students, mainly female, to study STEM at Marshall with scholarship of $7500/year for four years. The scholarship program starts in the fall of 2021 and MU is looking to recruit students to the program (10 students in 2021 and another 10 students in 2022).
