The FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) must be filled out each year that a student attends college if he/she wishes to be eligible for federal aid. The application is used to determine the dollar amount you or your family will be expected to contribute towards college. All federal grant and loan awards are determined by the FAFSA, and nearly all colleges use the FAFSA as the basis for their own financial aid awards. The FAFSA is managed by the Office of Federal Student Aid, the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation. Students must complete the FAFSA by March 1 to be eligible for some scholarships, including the PROMISE scholarship. It is important to check with the college where you are applying for possible earlier deadlines. The application can be completed online (recommended) or on paper. Please visit www.fafsa.gov and StudentAid.gov for more information.
