It is essential for all high school students to develop effective study skills. These are skills that you can use throughout your life in both college and the workforce. Learning is a lifelong process, whether you think you enjoy it or not. A large part of your school experience is learning how to learn. Use the tips below to help you in your current courses, as well as in your future endeavors.
Study Tips
1. Take Notes: Each person has his/her own style of taking notes. You need to find what works for you and apply it. It is important to take notes in your classes. Do not try to write down everything your teacher says. Listen for points of emphasis. This skill will transfer with you to your future job. Note taking is required in almost all career fields. Don't be afraid to use abbreviations; they can become your best friend.
2. Keep a Schedule: Establish a study schedule for yourself. It may help if you keep a daily planner to record due dates, test dates or other important class information. Establishing a schedule will prevent assignments or tests from creeping up on you. A schedule will allow you to keep up with work throughout the class.
3. Find a distraction free environment: You should study without distractions. Gather all of your materials before beginning a study session so that you can remain focused throughout. Determine what environment works for you (bright lights, background music, desk, etc).
