On Thursday, September 16th James Monroe High School hosted college recruiters and local career representatives at their annual college and career fair. College recruiters provided students with information about programs, scholarships, campus life and more. Our local career representatives educated students on education requirements, job outlook, day-to-day job duties and answered various questions from students. The return of this important educational event following its cancellation last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic added some positive energy to the school year.
In conjunction with James Monroe High School's College and Career Fair, First Community Bank representative Elizabeth Albin spoke with the Financial Literacy class at James Monroe on Sept 16 about basic banking skills. She was able to touch on several real-world topics these students will soon be experiencing. How to create and maintain credit, the importance of interest rates, savings vs. credit accounts, compounding interest, loans, mortgages, auto loans, and the basic innerworkings of money flow throughout the economy, were just a few of the topics Mrs. Albin discussed with students during her presentation.
College and career representatives will be at James Monroe for a college and career fair on September 16th at 1:00. Only juniors and seniors will be permitted to attend this year due to Covid-19 regulations. Students are encouraged to meet with the representatives to ask questions about programs, opportunities, education requirements, etc. We are grateful to all of the career representatives that come to help educate our students!
