JMHS seniors, Mannie Blanco, Carter Brown, Brady Chinault, Brady Davis and Katelyn Roberts spent a week this summer at Camp Dawson for YLA Senior Leadership Camp. Camp participants spend the week building leadership skills and learning how to apply those skills to making a positive impact in the school and community. All three young men would recommend the camp to their peers. Each said the camp provides opportunities to better one's self, while making new friends.
JMHS Junior, Kaleb Harper, attended Camp STEM at WVU Tech for the second straight summer. Camp STEM is a learning opportunity for students interested in the STEM field. This year, students learned about surveying, race car aerodynamics, programming, robotics, designing water pumps and more. In addition to the STEM educational activities, students also gain insight in to college campus life. The topics and experiments covered at camp change from year to year. Kaleb would recommend this camp to his peers, as it is a "fun experience".
JMHS Seniors, Blaize Ferguson and Thad Fullen, were selected to represent JMHS at Boys State this past summer. Blaize and Thad both served as county magistrates at the camp, where they learned about different aspects of our government. Both young men met several new friends at camp, and they are already talking about Mavericks friends that may enjoy going next year.
