The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2015 competition. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The Most Valuable Student scholarship deadline is November 30, 2016. Applications must be submitted to the Lewisburg Elks Lodge. Ranging from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree. For more information visit the Elks National Foundation website.
The West Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce this year's statewide High School Business Plan competition. To be eligible for the competition, juniors and seniors only, must write a three page maximum executive summary of their business concept. The executive summary must be submitted on the Department of Education's website by noon on November 18th. Ten finalists wlll be selected to compete for a $10,000 scholarship at WVU on March 19th, 2016. This travel grant provides funds for students in grades 10-12 or a recent graduate toward a four to six week cultural exchange to Finland, Japan, Italy, Peru or Australia during the summer of 2015. Three travel grants of $1500 will be awarded and perhaps more if funds are available. The contest entry deadline is November 14, 2016. The rules explain everything in further detail. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognize students in middle and high school grades who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. Student volunteers must submit applications by November 8. Applications can be found online at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit. State honorees will receive an unrestricted award of $1,000 and an all-expense paid trip with a parent to Washington D.C. in May 2015. Ten students will be selected as National Honorees, and they will receive $5,000 awards.
