Mrs. Julie Bradley, Careers in Education instructor at MCTC, announced earlier that five of the Educators Rising chapter placed first in state competition. Winners were: Children's Literature PreK - K First Place - Abby Craghead and Morgan Mills, Creative Lecture First Place - Michael Fraley, Educator's Rising Moment First Place - Sierra Broyles, and Impromptu Speaking First Place - Michael Fraley. Students competed virtually, due to COVID-19, and excelled in their skills and leadership.
The week of March 15-20 found Monroe County Technical Center students competing in contests and leading the state at the virtual WV HOSA State Leadership Conference. HOSA is a co-curricular organization for students in Health Sciences programs of study. Through HOSA, students learn and practice valuable industry and leadership skills. MCTC is home to two health science programs of study and two HOSA chapters; Therapeutic Services and Biomedical Science PLTW. This year's contests winners were: First Place: Prepared Public Speaking, Kendra Munsey First Place: Behavioral Health, Bryceson Whitt First Place: HOSA Bowl, Cole Thomas, Isabel Adkins, Jordan Lowe, Maddie McMillion First Place: Creative Problem Solving, Katie Willis, Aliyah Mullins, Brooklyn Lester MCTC's own Katie Willis served as HOSA State President this year , fulfilling her duties and presiding virtually due to COVID-19. "These students and their advisors, Mrs. Erin Sowers and Ms. Jessica Allen, can be very proud of their accomplishments. They are great examples of resiliency and perseverance throughout this very different school year," stated CTE Director Tricia King. She added, "The pandemic definitely changed how the State Leadership Conference, and the school year, look. But these individuals are not only surviving - they are thriving!"
