James Monroe High School student leaders Jordan Lowe & Leiann Richmond have been helping Maverick students get in the holiday spirit while learning about various cultures. These young ladies organized this year's multi-culture week at JMHS. The theme selected was Christmas around the World. Activities included classroom door decorations and art projects, fun facts recorded on the James Monroe Morning Show and WHFI 106.7, an informational presentation and various classroom lessons. In a recent article written for The Maverick Express, senior Zach Mincey noted, “It’s important to remember, especially during the times we live in now, to learn and respect other’s cultures and where they or their ancestors came from.” "The French, German, and Journalism classes at James Monroe High School celebrated multicultural month by getting into the holiday spirit. Students adopted a country or region, created a holiday ornament with a theme from there, and prepared articles for The Maverick Express describing how Christmas or a similar holiday was celebrated at that location. French students chose from the long list of francophone countries and regions such as Belgium, Chad, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, France, Haiti, Louisianna, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, and Quebec. German students chose from a list of German-speaking countries and regions including Austria, Bavaria, Berlin, Hamburg, Hessen, Sachsen, and Switzerland. Journalism students wrote articles on any country of their choosing and are formatting those from the world language classes for The Maverick Express. These will be forthcoming over the next week and you can check them out at this link: https://maverickexpress.org/category/features/.
