Sixty parents and seniors attended Financial Aid Night at James Monroe High School on September 12, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Meagan Jones, School Counselor introduced the key note speaker, Tammy Brown, Financial Aid Director at Concord University who explained the financial aid process to attendees. Additional speakers included Courtney Smith, with the Greenbrier Valley Education Foundation who explained the online scholarship portal that seniors use to apply for multiple scholarships with one application and Laura Rice, with the Monroe County Education Foundation who spoke on various scholarship opportunities available through this foundation.
For those that were unable to attend you will find a copy of the handouts including "Financial Aid 101" and the "Senior Planning Guide" on the James Monroe High School Counseling website jmhscounseling.weebly.com. Additionally, the College Foundation of West Virginia, CFWV.com has links for assistance with completing the Free Application for Financial Sudent Aid (FAFSA.gov) and links to the WV PROMISE application, which requires completion of the FAFSA regardless of financial need. James Monroe High School will sponsor free workshops with Judy Kee Smith from CFWV on October 5th beginning at 11 am for help with completing the FAFSA.
