Monroe County Chief Deputy James Hylton presented a seminar to all James Monroe High School students on the issue of traveling safely. This topic was suggested by the student body last year in response to a school counseling survey that solicited ideas for presentations that were of direct interest to the students. These topics are then woven into the comprehensive school counseling program.
Chief Deputy James Hylton (retired from Homeland Security) gave an excellent presentation to James Monroe students and highlighted several important areas: 1. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PACKED EVERYTHING, MAKE A LIST AND CHECK IT OFF AS YOU GO. 2. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE MEDICINE’S AND THAT THE ARE WITH YOU ON YOUR CARRY-ON BAG, NOT YOUR CHECK BAG. 3. MAKE SURE YOUR BAG IS UNDER 50 POUNDS SO YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED $100.00 FOR THE BAG, INSTEAD OF THE $30.00 FEE. 4. DO NOT PACK PROHIBITED ITEMS; WEAPONS, CHEMICALS, LIGHTERS, ETC. 5. GET UP IN TIME FOR YOUR FLIGHT, THEY DO NOT WAIT ON YOU. 6. ARRIVE AT LEAST 90 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT. 7. HAVE YOUR BAGS READY AND YOUR IDENTIFICATION OUT WHEN YOU GET TO THE TICKET COUNTER. 8. PAY ATTENTION, ONE WRONG MOVE WILL CAUSE YOU TO BE DELAYED FOR YOUR FLIGHT. 9. ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS, ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES, REPORT. 10. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR BAGS WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES. IF NOT MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHO HAS YOUR BAGS. 11. ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT FLASHING MONEY OR CREDIT CARDS. 12.
